A very old amalgam filling with open and karious edges on teeth 16 and 15.
The removal of the old filling and most of the karies and discoloration on tooth 16.
The edges of the filling cavity are etched with an acide based material. The composite filling adheres to this rough surface, so that it is air tight, to lower the risk of new karies.
The composite Material is placed layer after layer in the prepared cavity and then hardened with a lamp.
Here is the coposite filling almost finished. The edges need to be polished and the tooth needs to be treated with fluoride.
